Pont Audemer is a quiet town with a rich past and full of charming back streets and half-timbered riverside houses which bring you back to the middle ages. Right through the town, several pictoresque bridges cross small canals which link the two arms of the river Risle. The pont (or bridge) was for centuries the lowest bridge on the river. In Rue Sadi Carnot you will find several buildings dating from the XVII to the XVIII centuries with iron-worked balconies and impressive heavily sculptured doors which open onto beautiful courtyards. St. Ouen Church, with its gothic nave and roman chancel has a remarkable collection of stained glass windows from the XVI and XX century. | ||||||||||
